Day 13 and it has become clear to me that I'm not really giving up very much by doing Dry July!
Don't take that as an excuse to stop donating, in fact I'm a little worried that my donations are a little er, dry the last two days.

Take it or leave it
I enjoy a drink as much as the next person. At a significant birthday a few years back, Iwas visiting family in Ireland. My brother and his wife invited us out for lunch on the day of my birthday. We thought we'd bring a bottle of champagne, which was duly consumed, followed by what I'm pretty sure was close to a case of red wine (I lost count).
This is not unusual socialising in Dublin, and I was a bit surprised at how easily I fitted right back in! But I can easily follow a session like that with days of weeks of no alcohol at all without suffering.
Many people have spoken admiringly that I have been dry for nearly a full month now, but for me it isn't really a big deal.
Plenty of alternatives
Even if I did really miss a drink, there a plenty of alternatives to alcohol.
It's really noticeable how much is now available in the way of zero alcohol drinks. We had dinner with close friends last night and went to the supermarket to find almost a whole row in the drinks space with zero alcohol options. What was really funny was at checkout we still had to get the authorisation from the, and amazingly I wasn't asked for any ID.
So just a short thought for today, it's Matariki here in Aotearoa New Zealand, a public holiday for only the second time, so maanawatia a Matariki to all.
You can encourage me to keep dry by donating here
