I'm not in Nepal!

With me posting pictures of me in Nepal It would be easy to get confused into thinking that that's where I am. I'm not! I'm doing a challenge which is to aid the Himalayan Trust. This is a NZ-based charity which exists to help the people of Nepal, specifically the people of the high mountains, who are mostly Sherpa. They do this by building schools and health centres in the high country villages.

I'm blogging about this challenge mostly to keep myself motivated , but also to promote the cause. All donations no matter how small, gratefully received through my Everyday Hero site for this campaign.

So having cleared that up, how am I doing? Fundraising is going well and my contacts have been generous. As of today I've raised $645 which pus me in third place on the fundraising leaderboard.

The elevation leaderboard is another matter. There are some hard-driving kiwis out there doing this, and some of them are doing it on mountain bikes, which makes it tough to compete. I've hovered between 12th and 17th place on the elevation leaderboard, and I've kept up a daily climb rate which will get me to the goal within the month if I keep it up.

As of today I have climbed 2192m which is not enough to keep me in the top 20, so I have some work to do, and I've got some headwinds, as I'm getting tired and I need a rest day. Also I'm running Round the Bays on Sunday which is flat, but I don't think I'll be feeling like climbing 300m the same day.

On the actual road to Everest, I have yet to reach the altitude of Lukla, which is my next milestone and I probably won't for a few days yet!

So here's a picture of a mountain.

This is Ama Dablin - recently climbed by Sir Ed Hillary's grandsons Alex and George. A mere 6800m - 2000 less than Everest.
