On the second day of our trek to Everest Base Camp we are still walking through lots of villages. We encounter kids on their way to school. Even though their walk to school is along a dusty trail, they as neat and tidy as any of kids heading to Auckland Grammar or EGGS. The littlest one calls out "Namaste!" to all the trekkers as they pass by. You don't have to spend much time with the mountain people of Nepal to realise that they are a special people.
Today I'm still calibrating my activities to make sure that I can fit in what I need to do to meet the challenge without it completely taking over my life. 300m of climb doesn't sound like a lot, until you realise that it's every day, and if you miss a day it's 600m the next day!
Today I've reached 829m, which means I still have 521m to go to reach the equivalent altitude of Kathmandu city!
13th on the leaderboard. Another 8,000 or so to go!
