The Power of Achievement

One of the most satisfying things I have ever done is to compete in the Great Adventure Race for Curekids, an event that sadly is no longer held. After a whole day in the Hunua ranges running, climbing, crossing rivers, mountain biking and generally exhausting ourselves, our team found ourselves within a few hundred metres of the finish line, with our loyal support team waiting patiently for us, dressed up as pirates.

Exhausted though we were the sight was enough to galvanise us. We held hands and ran up the hill to the finish line. The last hundred metres was the best part of that event for me. Getting the completion medal and the congratulations of everyone when we finished was great, but somehow that last run to the line was where I felt the greatest sense of achievement. We hadn't finished, but we knew we would soon.

Finish Line in Sight

In a funny way, I'm feeling something similar now. With just five days left in Dry July, I have with the help of my donors reached third place on the individual fundraiser's leaderboard. The feeling is even better because I haven't had to do 9 hours of exercise to get there this time, although I may have worn out my brain thinking up a blog every day.

A Word from Our Sponsor

To celebrate, I'm delighted to report that I have a sponsor who is making the following offer:

Any donations made between now and 1 August will be matched dollar for dollar by my sponsor.

This offer will last until either the sponsors fund is exhausted, my target of $5,000 is achieved or the close of business on 1 August.

So, for the remainder of the month all of you who have been holding back can now effectively double your contribution at no extra cost to yourselves!

And if you do, I’m hoping that I can get even higher on the leaderboard to achieve silver or maybe even gold!

Just a few more days to go, would love it if you could help out, no donation is too small. As of today I have reached 80% of my target, but 87% of the month has gone by, so still some way to go.

And by the way, there’s no chance I’m likely to be having a drink between now and then.

In the Great Adventure Race we weren't close to the leaders, but we did finish, and we did raise around $20,000 for Curekids.

This time I am in the leaders, and it feels pretty good actually.

You can help me keep up my enthusiasm by donating here.

Thanks for reading!
