Or thanks a million for the non-Irish speakers.
Thanks to the generosity of my family on both sides of the world I was motivated to put in some extra summits today, and pushed my total up to just over 1700m. That puts me at number 15 on the leaderboard - and slightly in awe of my fellow campaigners!
1700m is half again as high as Carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in Ireland, but only just out of the suburbs by Nepal standards. Kathmandu the capital sits at a comfy 1400m and when you are on final approach you can see the Himalayas soaring up in the distance - well above the height of your plane. It's a jaw-dropping sight, but try as I might, I wasn't able to capture it effectively on camera - the scene is simply too vast.
The video clip below is the best I could do. The stuff that looks like cloud is actually the peaks above the permanent snow line.
Our next major milestone on the virtual climb of Everest is Lukla. More on that in tomorrow's post.
In the meantime, I've made it easy to donate to my campaign here.
And thanks a million again for those that have already done so!
