One Night in Linz

Last day in Vienna our Airbnb host say we can stay as long as we like, so are due to collect car from Hertz at 2:00pm so we start the day easy.

Unexpectedly, our car is a Volvo! It’s a nice enough ride, but feels huge in the narrow Viennese streets!

We hit the Autobahn for Linz where we plan to stay the night, about a three hour drive. As we arrive the rain starts and it’s got colder. After checking in, we head off for a recce around the town and walk as far as the Hauptplatz which is one of the main attractions just by the bridge over the Danube.

Weather is awful when we wake so we take an easy start again. We start at the Ars Electronica museum. This was interesting, but in places felt more like a high school science exhibition rather than a museum. By the time we exit around lunchtime the weather has lifted a bit so we stroll around the lovely cobbled alleys around the Hauptplatz for a while.

We then drive to the Pöstlingberg which is another highlighted attraction. This is a lovely park on a hilltop about 4km from the center. There is a great viewing platform within an easy climb from the carpark and a beautiful church overlooking the city.

After that we head straight for next destination Salzburg. The weather continues to be wet a lot of the way and the clouds low so we only get the briefest of glimpses of the mountains . By the time we arrive the rain has eased and we locate our Airbnb without difficulty and are installed by 5.30. Weather looking more promising for the morrow.
